What Is The Best Length For A Yoga Mat?

Yoga is a great way to practice mindfulness, relieve stress, and get your blood moving. However, choosing the right yoga mat, mat bag, or towel can sometimes be daunting. I’ve tried many different kinds of yoga mats in my yoga practice over the years. And I’ve used a lot of different types of yoga mats for other exercise programs and even for lounging around the house. I’ve found that a yoga mat makes all the difference in my yoga practice. It can make or break your yoga experience.

One of the more confusing aspects of purchasing a new yoga mat, particularly as a beginner. Is determining what the best length for a yoga mat is. Taller practitioners generally prefer longer mats. Because they give the room they need to find the ideal arm balance or downward dog without being cramped. But a longer mat can be unwieldy, especially when it's rolled up for storage or transport.

The length of your yoga mat can be one of the most important decisions you make. It determines the amount of space you have to move around in. And it can be uncomfortable to have to constantly reach around your mat to adjust your pose as you go.  It can also limit how much you can do in a single yoga session. Affecting how tired your feet get.

The Taller You Are, The Longer You Need

The answer to this question depends on the person and their height. Taller individuals may even need an extra long yoga mat so their hands and feet do not reach the ground when they are in the downward dog position. Taller people will also need a longer yoga mat for backbends. If you are tall, you will want to make sure your mat is not too short for your height. On the other hand, people who are shorter might need a shorter mat. So they do not feel too cramped while doing yoga.
